McStain Neighborhoods and Brock Built have both been selected to receive a Whirlpool Corporation Excellence in Sustainability award for their sustainable insight in the building community. The Excellence in Sustainability awards are part of the Whirlpool Corporation Green Touch™ Program, which helps make it easier to design, build and market sustainable homes. The program provides builders with a variety of practical solutions to help make a sustainable difference, such as sustainable products, design tools and marketing assistance.

"How you build makes a major impact on your community and the world. While many builders are just learning sustainable building practices, McStain and Brock Built are excellent role models, representing the future of residential building," said Tom Halford, general manager of contract sales and marketing at Whirlpool Corporation.

McStain Neighborhoods is one of only a few Colorado builders to make a 100 percent commitment to the ENERGY STAR program. ENERGY STAR-labeled homes are designed to generally perform 20 to 30 percent more efficiently than the typical home. McStain is also partnering with Denver Water and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to achieve optimum water efficiency in its current Denver-area residential project, EastPark Homes in Lowry. This partnership is part of Water Wise, a new pilot study for the EPA's WaterSense program, which is designed to rate the efficiency of water fixtures and appliances inside new homes. East Park homes are outfitted with highly efficient appliance packages from Whirlpool Corporation. McStain is one of only nine U.S. green builders chosen to participate in the WaterSense pilot study.

Atlanta's largest intown homebuilder, Brock Built Homes, recently teamed up with EarthCraft to build The Green House -- a sustainable showcase home designed to educate the public about environmentally friendly living. Brock Built has a reputation for building quality homes that improve the surrounding community. The Green House is no exception; the home was recently auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the local not-for-profit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. A Jenn-Air kitchen appliance suite and a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer pair contribute to the home's sustainability.

With more ENERGY STAR qualified appliances than any other appliance manufacturer from its portfolio of brands, Whirlpool Corporation provides numerous appliance packages that save water and energy.
