Jenn-Air Refrigerators: To Hide or Not To Hide?
PR Newswire

BENTON HARBOR, Mich., Nov. 29, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- By virtue of its size alone, the refrigerator is typically one of the largest and most visible objects in the kitchen. So when the time comes to update appliances or plan a kitchen makeover, a key decision must be made. Hide it with custom panels so it blends in seamlessly with cabinetry or allow it to be a focal point?

No brand makes it easier to choose than Jenn-Air with its latest collection of fully-integrated built-in refrigerators with smartly designed thinner door panels that provide maximum insulation, more interior space and the ability to virtually disappear into any kitchen decor. Highly engineered doors created with light-weight, low density material that is vacuum sealed allow for thinner, lighter doors that offer the best of both worlds by not sacrificing refrigerator space while also enabling a truly seamless look that is easier to install.  The fully-integrated built-in models make use of thoughtfully designed, articulated hinges that allow the refrigerator to blend into its environment, with gaps no larger than those of surrounding cabinetry. The hinges are equipped with a multi-pivot arm mechanism for smooth opening and closing, and enable the refrigerator door to swing beyond the usual 90 degree angle while still allowing the door to say within the plane of the cabinet for minimal side gaps.

"Our kitchen is small but it's the center of our home so when it came time to replace our old refrigerator we knew we'd want it to seamlessly blend into its surroundings," notes Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer (CMKBD) and author Ellen Cheever-Giorgi, whose design solutions have influenced the North American kitchen industry over the past 37 years.  "We selected a built-in fully integrated Jenn-Air bottom-freezer refrigerator with custom panels that matched our cabinetry.  Not only does it look like an elegant piece of furniture but it's virtually silent."

For those who choose not to conceal their appliances, the luxury appliance maker offers a number of equally quiet built-in and cabinet-depth choices that allow for either a dramatic or subtle design statement. These include a sleek Euro-Style Stainless and bold, commercially-inspired Pro-Style® Stainless, as well as a warm-hued Oiled Bronze and ultra contemporary Floating Glass, available in both black and white.

"Deciding whether to hide a refrigerator or let it be seen is a highly subjective choice best left to individual homeowners and kitchen designers," said Juliet Johnson, manager of brand experience for Jenn-Air. "No matter what the choice, all of our refrigerators offer innovative technology, superior performance and luxury styling."

Available models in the fully integrated, built-in collection include bottom-freezer, side-by-side door models and French door bottom-freezer models. Built-in models include a 36-inch bottom-freezer, an industry-first 42-inch French door bottom-freezer with the widest interior space of any flush refrigerator currently on the market, and 42-inch and 48-inch side by side configurations.

Of course, choosing a refrigerator should not be based on style alone. The aim at Jenn-Air is to "not only keep foods, beverages and ingredients fresher longer, but to preserve them in every possible way," says Johnson.  "The constant opening and closing of refrigerator doors can alter temperatures dramatically, but Jenn-Air integrated refrigerators keep the temperature at a consistent half-degree variance."

All refrigerators in the line feature Advanced Climate Control Technology and independently controlled bins to allow customized storage temperatures for highly perishable foods. A quick chill setting lowers the bin temperature below the liquid freezing point for one hour, making it ideal for quickly chilling white wine, sparkling water or other beverages for an impromptu gathering. Glide-out drawers with precision ball bearings make opening and closing effortless, even when fully loaded.

Other features include shelving with a "floating" glass design and brushed aluminum trim, and stylish glass touch controls with white LED and LCD displays.  An industry exclusive removable water filter conveniently located at the base grill is easily accessible and features PUR® filtering technology.

Since the introduction of the first self-ventilated cooktop in 1961 and downdraft ventilated range in 1965, Jenn-Air has consistently grown its reputation as a technology and design innovator.  Its selection of style options includes two distinct stainless steel collections and two cutting edge finishes: Floating Glass and Oiled Bronze.  From downdraft cooktops, wall ovens and professional-style ranges to dishwashers, refrigerators and such entertaining essentials as warming drawers, built-in ice machines and wine cellars, Jenn-Air offers a complete line of major kitchen appliances.  To learn more about the Jenn-Air appliance collection, please visit JennAir.com.
