LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- At this year's Consumer Electronics Show, Whirlpool brand showcases its most efficient dryer, the Whirlpool® HybridCare™ Heat Pump Dryer, which solves key challenges in the dryer category – energy usage, gentle care for specialty clothing and identifying an appropriate space to vent outside. These features and benefits earned the dryer a CES Best of Innovation Award in the SmartHome category and Innovations Award Honoree in the Eco-Design and Sustainable Technologies category.
Compared to typical dryers that use large amounts of energy in the form of venting hot, moist air, this large 7.3 cu. ft. capacity HybridCare™ Heat Pump Dryer regenerates energy during the drying cycle using a refrigeration system to dry and recycle the same air. Any water from the dryer is released through the washer drain. The innovative design and technology reduces energy consumption, using up to 73 percent less energyi with the Eco Dry setting while also drying loads within normal dry times, averaging 60 minutes depending on the selected cycle. In North America, dryers also waste an estimated $4B per year in energy.ii With this technology, consumers will be able to further reduce their energy consumption.
Additionally, the Energy Star® Certified high-efficiency electric dryer easily installs in more places thanks to the ventless design, which means consumers are no longer restricted to a specialized closet or basement, since it doesn't require a wall output.
"HybridCare technology is the latest example of Whirlpool brand's ability to bring exceptional care to the market, whether that means caring for the environment, your family or your favorite clothes," said Jon Hall, senior brand manager, Whirlpool brand. "Not only does it reduce overall energy costs, it opens the door for a segment of consumers looking for a laundry solution that doesn't require a wall output, especially renters and those living in smaller spaces."
HybridCare™ technology uses advanced sensors to manage drying temperature. Low heat allows for gentle drying of hard-to-care-for items, to give favorite clothes the best care possible.iii The unique design of the four shorter, staggered baffles increases the effectiveness of the dryer for small loads, promoting better, more balanced tumbling. Multiple drying mode options provide additional flexibility and performance:
Whirlpool brand will continue to expand product distribution to select U.S. markets and Canada in early 2015 while utility companies roll out rebates in select markets on the East and West Coasts that can save some consumers up to $600 per unit.
The Whirlpool® HybridCare™ Heat Pump Dryer is among many Whirlpool products receiving a CES Innovation Award recognition.
CES attendees can get closer look at the HybridCare™ Heat Pump Dryer and other innovations at Whirlpool brand's booth #73937 in the Family Tech Zone at the Sands Expo Center, January 6-9.
