New, Strikingly Different Refrigerator Finishes From Jenn-Air

BENTON HARBOR, Mich., April 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Taking cues from both fashion and nature, luxury appliance maker Jenn-Air is introducing three unusual built-in refrigerator finishes that push the boundaries of traditional appliance design. The new finishes, debuting in late spring, are Luxe Cashmere, Japanese Moss and Carrara Marble, each made using natural alternatives to traditional faux finishes.

Finely woven and soft to the touch, Luxe Cashmere represents an entirely new take on bringing fashion into the kitchen. Made with fine, virgin wool imported from Turkey, the new finish has a charcoal hue that brings out the subtle imperfections inherent in this highly-coveted textile. While requiring very little care, each Luxe Cashmere refrigerator includes a soft brush and gentle, water-based solution for use in occasional spot cleaning.

"At the risk of stating the obvious, this cashmere finish adds a warmth that is comforting, especially during those midnight trips when you find yourself gazing into the refrigerator," notes Jenn-Air marketing director Brian Maynard.

The Japanese Moss model, inspired by a product designer's visit to the Imperial Gardens of Kyoto, uses a strain of naturally-occurring moss that is particularly well-suited for indoor environments. To ensure adequate moisture for sustaining its lush green finish, Jenn-Air has designed a special system that feeds cool water from the refrigerator to the root system of the moss. For optimal maintenance of this living surface, Jenn-Air recommends placing the refrigerator in an area of the kitchen with northern exposure.

The Carrara Marble refrigerator is crafted using sculpture-quality, blue-grey marble quarried in the provinces of Massa and Carrara in Lunigiana, the northernmost tip of modern-day Tuscany. This virtually maintenance-free finish provides a dramatic focal point that complements a wide variety of cabinetry and other appliance finishes. To compensate for the refrigerator's additional 100 pounds of door weight, Jenn-Air has incorporated a compressed air system that automatically opens and closes its doors using voice commands.

"At Jenn-Air, we don't let minor obstacles like weight stand in the way of delivering a luxury experience," notes Maynard.

Future plans include the introduction of an expanded collection inspired by nature, including natural cork, recycled coconut fiber, sea glass and ant farm.
